It was recently reported that he left ITV's Emmerdale after 'growing tired of his dark storylines'.But Michael Parr took to Twitter to break his silence on his much-talked-about departure on Thursday evening, revealing that he has had the 'best few years' on the soap, but insisted 'it's time to explore other avenues'.The 31-year-old actor - who plays the character of Ross Barton -  also denied 'growing tired of long hours in the makeup chair', as part of his recent acid attack storyline. In the first tweet posted to his account, the Good Cop star revealed that he's leaving the soap in hopes to expand his career: 'Yes I’ll be leaving the soap soon. Have had the best few years at Emmerdale but it’s time to move on and explore other avenues.' Michael - who has been nominated for Best Actor for this year's British Soap Awards - also injected a hint of humour to his tweet as he joked that he 'might stay' if he wins the prestigious award.In another post, the Queensbury Rules actor also addressed the rumours over his intentions to leave the ITV favourite: 'Would just like to state the I’m not leaving Emmerdale because of the make up or because I’m going to become a professional MMA fighter.' He added: 'It’s just time for a change....although we all know I could be heavy weight champ if I wanted to be. X'    The mechanic - who Michael has portrayed for over five years - has been at the centre of plenty of storylines including Robert Sugden's shooting, almost being killed by his brother Pete, and most recently the horrific acid attack.The actor's tweet comes after a source told The Sun that Michael chose to leave the show due to being unhappy with his choice of story lines, as well as the hours he would spend having the makeup applied to recreate the scarring caused by an acid attack.The insider said: 'Mike has told anyone who will listen how much he hated his storylines and what bosses had done with his character.'  'He particularly hated the make-up he had to wear for the acid attack storyline. He's been fed up for ages and has finally told bosses he's off.'  Emmerdale's acting producer Kate Brooks told the publication that Ross will depart later this year when his contract comes to an end, but remained tight-lipped on whether he will be killed off.She said: 'His decision to pursue other acting opportunities has given the writing team the opportunity to create an intriguing storyline for his exit.'  Undoubtedly Ross' biggest storyline has been his horrific acid attack earlier this year, leaving the character scarred after being wrongfully targeted by Simon thinking that he was the villainous Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).
